Reannon Marcelissen {Rea} BScH, MSc, DVM

Dr. Reannon Marcelissen

Rea was born in Kingston and moved to Ottawa at 3 years of age with her parents.

After 9 years of study at the University of Guelph, she now returns to her “eastern roots” to practice veterinary medicine here at Barriefield Animal Hospital.

Following a lifelong goal of becoming a Veterinarian, at nineteen years old Rea headed off to Guelph to pursue a Bachelor of Science Honours in Animal Biology.

After completing this degree, Rea pursued a Masters in Science with a thesis focusing on the nutritional needs of performance dogs and sled dogs at the University of Guelph.

Immediately following her Masters, Rea commenced studies at the Ontario Veterinary College, and joined Barriefield Animal Hospital as a Veterinarian upon graduation (2010).

Dr. Marcelissen ’s professional interests include preventative medicine, wellness, small animal reproduction performance canine medicine and alternative medicine.

Rea grew up training and handling Samoyeds and many other breeds for local canine enthusiasts.

Growing up in the “dog show” world gave Rea a broad understanding of the needs of dog breeders.

In 2004, Rea became a dog breeder of her own, registering her purebred Samoyeds under the kennel name of “Oonirgluk,” which is after a heroic, lead, sled dog in a beloved childhood book.

Currently, in her spare time she enjoys competing in conformation and agility and hitting the trails for some winter dogsledding or summer dog scootering or backpacking just for fun.

Rea’s personal zoo includes her Samoyeds “Kaki, Coco and Anukti”, her cat “Solo”, and her budgie “Pixie”.

Keep up to date with Rea and her dog’s accomplishments at www.gotsamoyeds.com or on Facebook at Oonirgluk Samoyeds Reg’d.
