Cat getting a vaccination

Vaccinations are a very important part of keeping your adult cat healthy – even for “indoor only” cats. Vaccinations are administered along with a wellness examination for your cat. Regular health check-ups are very important for your cat, especially as they age.

Does my indoor cat need to be vaccinated?

At Barriefield Animal Hospital, we recommend that all cats be up to date on vaccines. Our veterinarians will discuss the lifestyle of your cat with you and determine a specific vaccine protocol that best suits their needs. Ontario legislation specifies that all pets must be vaccinated for Rabies because of the serious human health risk from this deadly disease.

What are FVRCP and core vaccine for cats?

Core feline vaccinations include feline panleukopenia virus, feline herpesvirus, feline Calicivirus, and Rabies. Some cats, especially those that go outdoors, should also be vaccinated for feline leukemia virus.

How often does my adult cat need to be vaccinated?

Re-vaccination is needed at certain intervals to keep your cat’s immunity adequate. Different vaccines require different re-vaccination/booster schedules. Your cat’s health and lifestyle will change over time, and so will their vaccination requirements.
