We recommend having your cat spayed or neutered before they reach maturity. There are behavioural and health benefits to spaying or neutering your cat.
When should I neuter/spay my cat?
We recommend spaying/neutering cats at 6 months of age. In female cats, spaying prevents unwanted litters and heat cycles, reduces the risk of mammary (breast) cancer, prevents uterine infections, and helps reduce inappropriate urine marking. In male cats, neutering reduces the tendency to spray/urine mark, prevents unwanted pregnancies, prevents testicular cancer, and helps reduce roaming behaviour.
What is the procedure to spay/neuter a cat?
Spaying involves removal of the ovaries and uterus. Neutering involves removal of the testicles.
