When would a urinalysis be recommended?
A dog may require a urinalysis when a urinary tract disease is suspected, when a pet is unwell, or to help assess kidney function.
What is the process?
A registered veterinary technician will examine the collected urine sample under the microscope. If an abnormality is detected in the sample, the veterinarian will discuss whether further testing is needed and if any treatment is recommended.
How is this done?
Urine may be collected by free-catch at home or at the clinic, or sometimes by cystocentesis if a sterile sample is required. Cystocentesis involves using a small needle to draw urine directly from the bladder. Our ultrasound helps us see exactly where the bladder is located to allow for safe urine collection.
